The National Arboretum Canberra is one of Canberra’s premier tourism attractions. Featuring some of Canberra’s best panoramic views, stunning architecture, themed, landscaped gardens and over 40,000 rare, endangered and culturally significant trees, it’s no wonder over one million visitors pass through the gates each year.
With added attractions such as the National Bonsai & Penjing Collection of Australia, the much-loved POD playground, the National Rock Garden and the Forest Sculpture Gallery and a regional botanic garden, there is so much to see and do!
To understand the significance of the Arboretum and to learn about the trees, join knowledgeable volunteer guides for a walking tour through the ever-changing forests. With over 20 kilometres of multipurpose trails weaving through a mosaic of 97 individual forests, tour themes and departure times are tailored to the season, ensuring you experience the forests at their most spectacular.
Please note:
Most guided tours take place on dirt trails and may have uneven terrain. Please contact the arboretum to discuss how they can adapt a tour for accessibility options.
Bring a hat, drinking water, sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
Recommended for ages 12 and over (with an accompanying adult).

Venture into the forests with a volunteer guide for a one-hour guided walk to learn more about the trees, features and history of the National Arboretum Canberra.
Walking locations will vary with each tour, as they are tailored to best suit the season, ensuring that visitors will experience the forests at their most spectacular.
Please note terrain is uneven for Forest Walks. Please wear sturdy shoes and weather appropriate clothing.

The four seasons gives four reasons to explore the ever-changing forests, from the russet oranges of autumn to the explosive colours of spring. Knowledgeable and passionate volunteers lead visitors through spectacular forests to give visitors an insight into the history, purpose and stories of the National Arboretum Canberra. The longer seasonal walks allow time to delve deeper into how the seasonal significance of the trees and forests.
There are over 20 kilometres of multipurpose trails that wind through a mosaic of 94 individual forests at the National Arboretum Canberra.
Whilst you are there, surround yourself with some of Canberra’s best panoramic views, stunning architecture and themed, landscaped gardens.
