Papua New Guinea, High Commission of

Landmarks and Buildings

Opened in 1981, the High Commission takes the form of a Haus Tambaran or Spirit House. Traditionally, the Haus Tambaran was a meeting place for tribal elders. It was also a storehouse for sacred objects. The vivid gable depicting stylised images of clan ancestors, was painted by students from the National Art School in Port Moresby.
