Joe Stark Sculptures

Galleries, Museums and Collections

Adding a splash of personality to the Ballina CBD, these five striking sculptures — Toothy, Uncle Jim, Coral Trout, Angler Fish, and Pelican — by local artist Joe Stark celebrate the region’s coastal character and community spirit.

Crafted entirely from recycled stainless steel, each sculpture captures the playful charm of Ballina’s marine life and waterways while reflecting the town’s strong connection to the river and sea. Their gleaming forms shimmer in the light, inviting locals and visitors alike to pause, smile, and enjoy a moment of creativity amid the bustle of town.

Commissioned as part of the Ballina CBD upgrade, these works bring art and everyday life together — turning the streetscape into an open-air gallery that celebrates sustainability, craftsmanship, and local identity.

Joe Stark is a Northern Rivers artist known for his distinctive sculptures made from recycled stainless steel and hardwood timbers. His works can be found in public spaces, schools, universities, caravan parks, pubs, and private collections across Australia. Through his art, Joe transforms reclaimed materials into expressive forms that combine environmental awareness with a strong sense of place.
