Miss Traills House and Garden

Galleries, Museums and Collections

Miss Traill’s House is open on the second Sunday of each month, 12.00pm to 3.30pm, with timed entry tickets.

Miss Traill’s House and Garden is a National Trust property situated in Bathurst. Today it is an elegant house museum containing Ida Traill’s significant collection of artefacts. These were collected by four generations of the Kite and Lee families, recipients of original land grants in the Bathurst area and from whom Ida Traill is descended.

Within the house are found charming furniture, china, paintings and ornaments as well as an intriguing collection of horseracing memorabilia. The rooms are set up exactly as they were in 1976 when the National Trust acquired the house from Ida Traill’s bequest.

Surrounding the period home there are extensive and beautiful gardens with winding pathways and heritage plantings. Adjoining the garden is a horse paddock, once very common in country towns, and used by Miss Ida Traill in later years for her three pet sheep.
