North Bowens Creek Canyon

Natural Attractions

You should only attempt North Bowens Creek Canyon if you’re an accomplished user of ropes and other canyoning equipment. Plan to take about six hours and do a total walk of 7.1 kilometres to get in and out of this canyon.

North Bowens Creek Canyon is a challenging 800 metre canyon. You’ll need to do down-climbs, jumps, scrambles, swims and two abseils to complete it. The first abseil descends 10 metres into a small pool, the second 12 metres down a waterfall into a large pool.

From there you’ll need to make several short swims in this deep and narrow canyon to reach the junction of the north and south branches, where you’ll begin your exit.

Because you’ll spend a fair amount of time in the cold waters of Bowens Creek, warm, sunny days of summer are the best times to attempt this canyon.
