The Riverboat Postman

Cruises, Sailing and Water Tours

The Riverboat Postman – an iconic cruise just an hour from the centre of Sydney – delivers the mail to the isolated water-access-only residents of the magnificent Hawkesbury River on behalf of Australia Post (as well as other daily essentials like milk, papers, the odd bottle of rum).

Enjoy morning tea and lunch on board, complete with an entertaining and informative commentary from the local skippers. Departing every weekday with the mail from The Postie Wharf, you’ll find them right next to the Hawkesbury River Train Station at Brooklyn.

The boats are large, stable and comfortable catamarans, each with a well-stocked bar on board so you can have a glass of wine or beer with your lunch.

Bookings are essential as they are often full, but payment can be made either online or over the phone. The Riverboat Postman looks forward to welcoming you on board soon!

Join the delivery of mail for Australia Post to the water-access-only settlements perched on the banks of the spectacular Lower Hawkesbury River.

It is located right beside the Hawkesbury River train station at Brooklyn, with a direct train from Sydney Central.

The Riverboat Postman is Australia’s last remaining mail boat in operation and is one of the hidden gems of Sydney. Closer than the Blue Mountains, halfway to the Hunter Valley and only 20 minutes from the Australian Reptile Park at Kariong, the cruise offers a true “step back in time” experience with its old-school snail-mail delivery service to locals (and their dogs) who come to meet us on the wharves.

Cruise along and take in the beautiful scenery the magnificent Hawkesbury River has to offer.

This cruise includes morning tea and coffee with our famous homemade ANZAC biscuits, lunch and informative commentary throughout the cruise.

Bookings essential.

Welcome to the famous Riverboat Postman.

Cruise and enjoy the magnificent scenery of the lower Hawkesbury River as they deliver the mail and other essentials to the river-access-only settlements upriver from Brooklyn.

The first Riverboat Postman started in 1910, and the tradition continues today. Skippers are locals who have lived in the area their whole lives – be entertained by the stories of the river whilst cruising in comfort up this spectacular waterway.

The Riverboat Postman delivers to the settlements of Dangar Island, Kangaroo Point, Milson Island, Bar Point, Marlow Creek, Fisherman’s Point and Milson’s Passage before returning to Brooklyn in time for the train.

The cruise departs daily every weekday from the Brooklyn Public Wharf.

The Riverboat Postman now offers a shorter cruise showcasing the incredible scenery of Broken Bay at the mouth of the Hawkesbury River and Cowan Creek. In just 75 minutes, you’ll see native Australia at its best, all whilst munching away on some equally spectacular pastries and profiteroles.

Indigenous rock carvings, secluded beaches, waterfalls, islands, national parks – you get it all!

Suitable for all ages, pram-, walker-, wheelchair-friendly, this cruise goes in the opposite direction to the daily mail run by The Riverboat Postman. It’s perfect for those short on time, or those travelling with some shorter attention spans…and it’s also timed perfectly for arguably the best fish and chips on the planet back in Brooklyn.
