South Newcastle Beach Skate Park

Sports and Recreation Facilities

A celebration of accessibility and diversity, the South Newcastle Skatepark has been carefully designed to welcome everyone, the cornerstone of which is the Hunter’s first wheelchair-accessible (WCMX) skate bowl. Featuring wide and smooth pathways, connective tunnels, and accessible transition points, getting in and out of the ride zone or finding the perfect vantage point is something all skatepark visitors can experience.

On any given day you can spot kids experiencing the thrill of a bowl for the first time, a crew of jump and street skaters doing their thing, and wheelchair riders taking to the ramps and accessible bowl. Plus, with features this slick, the pros are set to grace the concrete from time to time too.

For those wanting to continue their ride and explore Newcastle’s other coastal treasures, Bather’s Way boasts concreted paths in both directions from the skatepark; you can head past the Yirannali rock wall section to King Edward Park or ride around the coast, past Newcastle and Nobby’s Beach, through to Shortland Esplanade.

With expansive views of the iconic Newcastle Beach on one side and Bronte Naylor’s vibrant street art on the other, this is one picturesque park to embrace the skate life. Seating, shade, and viewing areas along the upper and lower promenades, and a nearby outdoor gym are also available.
