Palm Beach Headland Urban Night Sky Place

Observatories and Planetariums

Palm Beach Headland on Sydney’s Northern Beaches has been officially named Australia’s first Urban Night Sky Place (UNSP) by DarkSky International.

Positioned on the outer edge of the city region and on the northern most tip of Palm Beach, the UNSP covers 62 hectares and incorporates Governor Phillip Park and Barrenjoey Headland, which is part of the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

Excellent night sky viewing can be enjoyed from within Governor Phillip Park, with ample parking available within the reserve. Governor Phillip Park is accessible to visitors at all times.

Meanwhile, Barrenjoey Headland – including the lighthouse precinct – is closed from dusk to dawn and only open for approved and supervised DarkSky events.
