O’Brien’s Hill

Agri, Mining and Industry

Venture to O’Brien’s Hill to immerse yourself in the history of the goldfields and explore the area that put Grenfell on the map.

Gold was first discovered here in 1866 by Cornelius O’Brien, and with this discovery news quickly spread, which made many travel to the area to seek out the same fortune.

Take a stroll along our guided path and take in the sites as you go.

The site is easily accessible to visitors with car parking, picnic facilities and toilets.

There is remnant mining machinery throughout including a horse works, stamper, air shafts and poppet head. These allow you to take a step back in time and also provide great photos to take away and look back on from your stay in Grenfell.
