Joadja is the site of a Kerosene Shale Mining Town that operated from 1878 to 1911. Over 1300 people, men ,women and children (mainly brought out from Scotland) lived in the valley. After over 100 years of neglect, the valley is slowly being brought back to life with considerable restoration work, a new Whisky and Gin Distillery and fully guided tours.

This is a fully guided tour of the Historic site on purpose built people movers and they run for approx. 100 minutes. They are scheduled most Saturdays at 11am and then a second tour at 2pm. Some Sundays are also included from time to time.
