22 Nov 2025 to 23 Nov 2025 Once Only Event
An immersive weekend with local weaving collective Jugan Dandii learning the relaxing art of twining and natural fibre weaving. Twining is an archetypal technique common to many cultures, and is a meditative way to create bags, baskets or sculptural forms from common garden refuse and wild foraged plant material.
Under the guidance of Aunty Tania Marlowe and Deb Cole of Jugan Dandii, participants will learn how to harvest their own fibre from the surrounding environment and prepare it for weaving baskets or other forms. A variety of ways to use the twining technique will be demonstrated, to create a range of decorative and rustic natural baskets. Across the weekend participants may work on multiple projects with a range of twining techniques, or choose to focus on one larger piece, whilst enjoying yarns and conversation.
This workshop is suitable for all experience levels. Tools and materials are included.
Local weaving collective Jugan Dandii are Nyangbal, Bundjalung woman Aunty Tania Marlowe and fibre artist/educator Debra Cole. Passionate about empowering individuals and groups to gain confidence in woven arts, they have been sharing the restorative practice of natural fibre weaving, along with connection to community, country and culture across the region for over a decade.
