Rous Public School Bonfire Night

Festivals and Celebrations

13 Jun 2026 Annual Event

Hundreds of families gather each year for the much-loved Rous Public School Bonfire, a long-standing community event that brings together locals and visitors for an evening of entertainment and celebration.

Now in its 44th year, the event has grown into the school’s major annual fundraiser, featuring crowd favourites such as bucking bull rides, gumboot throwing, market stalls and a variety of street food. The evening culminates in a spectacular fireworks finale, creating a memorable experience for all ages.

Originally established in 1981 to celebrate the school’s centenary, the bonfire has since evolved into a signature event on the local calendar. With around 90 students, Rous Public School uses the occasion not only to raise essential funds for equipment and facility upgrades, but also to showcase the school to the wider region.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to secure a prime viewing spot for the lighting of the giant bonfire – the centrepiece of the event and a highlight that continues to draw crowds year after year.

To make getting there even easier, a shuttle bus will run every 30 minutes from Robertson Street, Alstonville (outside Coles) to Rous Public School from 4pm to 9.30pm for a gold coin donation. No parking headaches – just good vibes and a big fire.
