Hanwood is a small rural town, five kilometres south of Griffith, surrounded by citrus and grape and mixed horticulture farms. Hanwood is known for its wineries with McWilliam’s and Two Italian Boy’s winery open for tastings. Catania Fruit Salad Farm is located in Hanwood and is open for tours. The town is serviced by a primary school, general store, post office and butcher.
