The small village of Tarago is 11 kilometres along the Braidwood Road between Braidwood and Goulburn. It’s home to a number of historic buildings including the Anglican Church and Loaded Dog Hotel which was the meeting place for many bushrangers including the notorious Frank Gardiner and Ben Hall. Much of the hotel is still in the original stone, brick and wood of that era.
For many years, Tarago was a staging post and railhead for the southern line. The major industry in the area was the Woodlawn Mine that produced copper, lead and zinc; now it has been converted to the Woodlawn Bioreactor.
