East Arnhem is a spectacular part of the Northern Territory and if you can afford the time to vist, you won’t be disappointed. Pristine beaches, rugged coastlines and real off-the-beaten-track adventure awaits you. Be aware however that East Arnhem Land is 4WD country and very remote with only minimal services so pack wisely and ensure you have plenty of spares especially fuel and tyres. The journey from Darwin to the Gove Peninsula by road is over 1000 kms and will take around 30 hours.
Northeast Arnhem Land is home to the indigenous Yolngu people, one of the largest indigenous groups in Australia, they have succeeded in maintaining a vigorous traditional indigenous culture and the strong continuing traditions.
All visitors to Arnhem Land need to obtain a permit. Permits can be arranged from the Northern Land Council or by your tour operator.
