Judbarra / Gregory National Park
Things To Do Timber Creek, Victoria Daly, Northern Territory
Judbarra / Gregory National Park is the Northern Territory’s second-largest national park, showcasing a mix of ranges, escarpments, gorges and eucalypt woodlands.
Travelling along the Victoria Highway reveals dramatic landscapes. For a closer look, explore the Escarpment Walk and Ngawilbinbin (Joe Creek) Loop Walk near the Victoria River Roadhouse, where sandstone formations rise above the river valley.
Boab trees (Adansonia gregorii) are found throughout the park but are especially striking in the limestone country, accessible only by 4WD. The western section of the park stretches from the subtropics in the north to the semi-arid zones in the south, supporting diverse flora and fauna.
In the south, high-clearance AWD vehicles can access Bullita Homestead, a historic site with preserved stockyards that reflect the park’s pastoral history. Gregory’s Tree is another cultural site accessible by 2WD and linked to early European exploration.
A network of remote 4WD tracks opens seasonally, usually from May to November. Travellers must be well-prepared and check road conditions before visiting.
The Judbarra Visitor Centre at the Ranger Station in Timber Creek is a great place to learn about the region’s culture, ecology and history.
There are excellent opportunities for fishing and camping throughout the park. Camping fees apply and must be booked online before your visit.
A Parks Pass is required.
