Smiths Crossing

Natural Attractions

A great spot for a paddle and bird watching.

Where the old bridge crosses the Kolan River there is excellent rainforest. On the road from Bundaberg take Roasedale Road off the Gin Gin Road. Drive for about 15 minutes until you cross the Kolan River/Yandaran Creek. Take the next left and follow it to the river. Don’t turn to Invicta. There are picnic tables and toilets. There are indistinct tracks into the forest and along these one can see good rainforest birds.

From Smiths Crossing, one can paddle upstream for some 6 kilometres until a shallow section is reached. If you head downstream from Smith’s Crossing, after about 3 kilometres you arrive at the bridge for Rosedale Road.

The causeway on the southern approach remains and continues to make a great spot to launch kayaks.
