Walkabout Cultural Adventures is a 100% Aboriginal owned and operated cultural tour business based in the Port Douglas Daintree, North Queensland region of Australia, operating for over 20 years.
Providing half and full day tours exploring the local area and focussed around the local Aboriginal connection to country: the only place where two world heritage sites meet, the world heritage listed Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. Tours are educational and allow guests to participate and learn about cultural practises and activities in an interpretive and soft adventure experience.
Aboriginal tourism is true ecotourism: traditionally First Nations people have maintained a sustainable and respectful relationship with the environment for thousands of years. Learn about the cultural connection the Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal people have with their land. Learn about the different environments, plants and resources, bush foods and medicines. Sample some seasonal bush tucker while appreciating the history, culture and traditions. This knowledge once understood, can be applied in everyday life, which for many, is transformational.
In order to provide more personalised tours, they operate each tour with a minimum of 2 passengers and a maximum of 11 passengers and can be booked on a shared or private basis.

Walkabout Cultural Adventures Ngana Julaymba Dungay tour explores the southern side of the Daintree river and Mossman area.
Aboriginal guides provide a guided walk through the southern section of the Daintree rainforest along the Mossman Gorge and along local coastal habitats, including beaches and mangrove forests, explaining the cultural connection to country.
Gain an insight into how the Kuku Yalanji people see and use the natural environment, learn about different foods and medicines, sample seasonal bush tucker, and try traditional Aboriginal hunting practices. Learn the history, culture and traditions of the local Aboriginal people and the area. Walk through the rainforest and coastal habitats learning about the different environments, different foods and medicines utilised from nature, sample some seasonal bush tucker, collect shellfish and learn traditional Aboriginal hunting practices, have a go at spear throwing and if you are lucky, catch a mud crab. Tour also includes swim in a pristine freshwater stream.

MAIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE JULAYMBA AND KULKINGA TOURS
Julaymba Tour explores the region south of the Daintree river, including Mossman Gorge (or a rainforest freshwater stream) and local beaches i.e. Wonga, Newell or Cooya Beach coastal environment. Tour includes a rainforest walk and a walk along the coastline with spears and learning the traditional hunting techniques.
Kulkinga Tour explores the region further north, crossing the Daintree River by ferry and travelling to Cape Tribulation – renowned as “where the rainforest meets the reef”, stopping for guided walks in different environments including a beaches, rainforest, mangrove boardwalks and freshwater creeks. No spearing on this tour.

Walkabout Cultural Adventures takes you north of the Daintree River to explore the Daintree rainforest and different environments around Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef.
Learn about how these unique environments come together and how the local Kuku Yalanji utilised and managed the natural resources.
Be guided on a walk through the world’s oldest surviving tract of low-land tropical rainforest, while your guide shares the history, culture and traditions of the Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal people. Hear about the unique relationships the Kuku Yalanji people have with their land and the respect they have for these diverse environments. Walk through the world’s oldest living rainforest, see the majestic Daintree river, and reach Cape Tribulation: where the rainforest meets the reef, explore coastal habitats learning about the different bush foods and medicines, swim at one of the pristine freshwater streams. It is special to find the elusive cassowary or a crocodile while on tour.
