Heroes Avenue Roma

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

The heritage-listed Heroes Avenue in Roma stands as a living tribute to the soldiers from the Roma District who lost their lives in World War I. Established in 1918, the avenue features 140 bottle trees, each accompanied by a remembrance plaque honouring an individual soldier.

Every year on ANZAC Day, wreaths are placed on each tree in a heartfelt ceremony of remembrance. While many descendants of the fallen no longer reside in Roma, local community groups and citizens ensure the tradition continues, preserving this enduring homage. Heroes Avenue is a powerful symbol of sacrifice, community, and remembrance. Be sure to pick up a guide at the Big Rig Roma Visitor Information Centre to accompany your walk through the Avenue.
