Pumicestone Passage

Natural Attractions

From Caloundra to Deception Bay the Pumicestone Passage is a 35 kilometre ecological marvel.

Part of the Moreton Bay Marine Park and home the oldest registered fish habitat, the passage is one of Australia’s most important bird and marine habitats.

Populations of dolphins, turtles, fish and even birds are found among the waters of Pumicestone Passage, with dugongs reported year-round despite the winter water temperature that usually cause them to migrate.

Pumicestone Passage is home to about 1,500 resident shorebirds of 11 species, and nearly 20,000 migratory shorebirds of 24 species making the area a birdwatcher’s delight. It is also a great destination for all fishing enthusiasts, whether throwing a line from the shore or a boat.
