1770 Festival
Events Seventeen Seventy, Gladstone, Queensland
22 May 2026 to 24 May 2026 Annual Event
The 1770 Festival is a vibrant annual celebration held in Australia’s only numbered town—the picturesque Town of 1770, Queensland. Taking place from 22–24 May 2026, this year’s theme, “Stories of Salt and Sand — A Celebration of Coastal Heritage,” invites locals and visitors alike to gather on the shores where history and community meet.
While the festival marks the historic landing of the HMB Endeavour on 24 May 1770, the heart of the event has evolved into a powerful celebration of coming together. It is a collaborative platform where the Gooreng Gooreng people—the traditional custodians who have been an integral part of the festival since its inception in 1992—share their ancient, living culture through song, dance, and ceremony.
This three-day event transforms the Discovery Coast into a colourful kaleidoscope of community spirit. Whether you are hitting the pavement for the timed Fun Run, participating in immersive cultural workshops, or dancing to live music under the stars, the festival offers something for everyone.
From the historic re-enactments at sunset to the spectacular fireworks and bustling market stalls, we celebrate the resilient spirit of our stunning coastal home. Join us for a weekend of heritage, harmony, and fun at the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef.
