Coiled Basket Weaving Workshop with Maryann Talia Pau

Sunday 17th Mat 10am – 12pm
Cost: AUD115 per person
Arrive 9:45am for 10am start

Carys Martin Ceramics Studio, Cleveland • Redlands Coast

As part of Redlands Coast AdventureFest, this coiled basket weaving workshop invites you to slow down, connect with place, and experience creativity as a form of gentle adventure.

Led by Samoan-Australian artist and One Billion Stars creator Maryann Talia Pau, the workshop draws on traditional Samoan coiling techniques while working with locally sourced native fibres from the Redlands Coast, including Spiny Headed Mat Rush (Lomandra longifolia) – a resilient coastal plant long valued for its strength, flexibility, and connection to land.

During this hands-on session, you’ll learn the fundamentals of coiled weaving, shaping natural fibres into a small woven basket. The finished piece is ideal for holding small treasures, gifting, or simply as a tactile reminder of time spent creating with intention.

Held in the welcoming surrounds of Carys Martin Ceramics Studio, all materials are provided along with gentle guidance, shared stories, and space for mindful making. You’ll leave with your completed basket and the skills to continue exploring coiled weaving at home.

AdventureFest celebrates the Redlands Coast as a place of exploration, culture, and connection – and this workshop offers a creative way to experience the region through fibre, tradition, and hands-on making.
