Threads of Memory – The Art of Storytelling through Yarn with Norton Fredericks

Exhibition and Shows

18 Oct 2025 to 19 Oct 2025 Once Only Event

Join artist Norton Fredericks for a two-day drop spindle masterclass exploring the ancient art of spinning yarn.

Begin with the park-and-draft technique, move into suspended spinning, and learn to spin raw wool locks before wet-finishing your yarns for a professional touch. Each participant will receive a botanically dyed natural fibre batt to spin, create their own solar-dyed yarn, and embellish a hemp project bag with slow stitching.

By the end of the weekend, you’ll take home a drop spindle, four skeins of finished yarn, and your own hand-stitched project bag.

Part of Create Exchange – a three-year project of artist-led exhibitions and activations, supported by Haymans Electrical, Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) and Redland Art Gallery | Redland City Council.
