Step into the calm and curious world of the Capybara— one of nature’s most relaxed residents. In this exclusive behind-the-scenes encounter, you’ll meet the charming Capybara trio as they nibble on snacks, enjoy enrichment, and wander over to say hello.

Guided by one of our expert keepers, you’ll use a special enrichment tool to give the Capybaras a gentle scratch, something they absolutely love! As Adelaide’s leading paranormal investigators, Haunted Horizons have listened to and documented numerous reports of unusual happenings in and around Adelaide Zoo. Their first paranormal investigation just scratched the surface – now they’re ready to find out more.

Explore Minchin House, the Rotunda and the old Nocturnal House as they use state of the art paranormal equipment to uncover the mysterious and tell the stories behind the zoo and its animals.

Meet the lovable kangaroos and wallabies!

Get up close to the most colourful of all the kangaroo family – native Yellow-footed Rock-wallabies. These little marsupials will steal your heart with their beautiful colourings and super sweet faces.

You’ll also meet another beautiful and bouncy species up close, the Western Grey Kangaroos that share their grassy habitat.

Join our knowledgeable keepers behind the scenes and learn all about their unique personalities plus the trouble these species are facing in the wild, including Yellow-footed Rock-wallabies role in a vital cross-fostering program for other wallaby species.

Feed breakfast to one of Adelaide Zoo’s russet Red Pandas.

Before the zoo opens, join the panda keepers to feed the smallest panda a tasty breakfast treat!

During the exclusive experience, you’ll go into the Red Panda habitat, hear all about this incredible and endangered animal, and learn the inside scoop on zoo residents Ravi and Mishry.

Red Pandas are found in the wild in the Himalayas and south-western China, and spend most of their lives in trees, their main source of food is bamboo but they also eat a variety of fruits, leaves and eggs. Unfortunately wild populations are declining, with habitat loss due to human developments being one of the biggest contributors to the species endangerment.

Please note, Red Pandas Mishry and Ravi are part of the regional breeding program and we’re thrilled that plans are underway for introductions and breeding in 2024. During breeding season, some experience times are unavailable and we thank you for your understanding and best breeding wishes.

This experience takes place within the Red Panda habitat and requires walking over uneven and steep ground.

Come and hang with the adorable koala duo!

Looking to meet some of Australia’s most iconic animals, just minutes from the Adelaide CBD? Step behind the scenes and get up close with the beautiful Koala duo in this unforgettable experience.

Join our passionate keepers inside the Koala habitat and learn all about Peaches and Pretzel, from their favourite foods to their sleepy routines. You’ll have the chance to hand-feed them fresh gum leaves and, if they’re feeling friendly, gently pat their soft fur.

You’ll also meet Whitney the Echidna, who loves to waddle through the habitat, often right past your feet! It’s a special encounter with two truly unique Australian species.

Hand feed Obi, the lovable Pygmy Hippopotamus!

Smaller than a common hippopotamus, Obi the Pygmy Hippo is a cheeky chap who loves to swim, wallow in his mud bath and roll around in hay. This hefty herbivore weighs around 250kg thanks to his healthy appetite for vegetables, leafy greens and hay.

This is your chance to go behind the scenes to see Obi’s chompers up close! Hand feed him some tasty treats and ask all your hippo-related questions to a dedicated ungulate keeper.

See Obi’s gorgeous little ears wiggle, his tail swish and watch his impressive jaw munch through lunch.

Obi loves exploring new things, especially enrichment designed to keep him physically and mentally stimulated – and what better form of enrichment than human visitors with tasty treats!

Meet giant Aldabra Tortoise, Aonika!

Step back in time and meet the prehistoric resident today.

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a zoo keeper?

Spend the day assisting our dedicated keeping staff as they show you what it takes to look after some amazing animals.

From preparing the animals’ feed, cleaning habitats and visiting off-limits areas, during the ‘Keeper for a Day’ experience you get to experience life as a zoo keeper.

Every day is different at Adelaide Zoo so you never can tell which incredible animals you’ll get up close to as part of the tour. From giraffes and maned wolves to penguins, reptiles and meerkats, there are many pawesome animals you’ll meet as part of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

It’s time to get fishy!

Do you love penguins? Join dedicated keepers for a personal trip to Adelaide Zoo’s Penguin Beach and help feed the hilarious colony of Little Penguins their fishy lunch.

Just so you know, penguin table manners are a little different to ours so things may get a bit messy. Please dress appropriately.

Each of the penguins has a unique personality, making the colony a hive of activity. The playful penguins love chattering and squawking to one another and are always busy, spending their days swimming, diving and darting through the waters at speeds of up to 40km an hour! On land, they are a little less graceful, waddling and hopping over rocks to their burrows.
