Angaston Blacksmith Shop and Museum

Galleries, Museums and Collections

Listen to the hammer striking the anvil and step back to an era when blacksmithing was at the heart of village life. Established in 1876 by the Doddridge family, this historic site is one of the last main street forges in Australia. Enduring economic hardship and technological change, today it stands as testament to the skill and resilience of generations past.

Next door, the Doddridge home invites you to explore history through the lens of everyday life. Be inspired by a family that embraced frugality and creativity. Discover the stories, artefacts and images that reveal both the challenges and joys of life in simpler times, and which also reflect upon the history of the township.

This special site is operated by volunteers of the Angaston and Penrice Historical Society. This is an immersive experience for all ages – they welcome visitors to discover the stories of their district.
