Old Government House

Galleries, Museums and Collections

Old Government House, the former summer residence of South Australia’s early governors, is a State Heritage–listed complex set in the heart of Belair National Park. Built in 1860, the house is an outstanding example of Victorian-era architecture, surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens.

The buildings and grounds are cared for by The Friends of Old Government House, a dedicated group of volunteers working in partnership with the Department for Environment and Water.

Visitors are invited to discover the rich and fascinating stories of the people who lived in and visited the House. Guided tours and vintage-themed afternoon teas are offered on the first and third Sundays of each month, as well as on selected public holidays. The House closes for a Winter break during July and August.

Group tours can be arranged on weekdays by appointment (minimum 16 people). Please visit
