Wittunga Botanic Garden

Parks and Gardens

Wittunga Botanic Garden is a hidden oasis located in suburban Blackwood.

Spread over 13-hectares, this attractive botanical destination showcases beautiful water-wise plants from Australia and South Africa.

A haven for wildlife, you’ll hear and see a range of native fauna who are attracted the bird and butterfly gardens. Also keep an eye out for koalas in the grey box woodland and turtles in the lake.

With its fun nature-themed play space, lush lawns and shaded gazebos, Wittunga Botanic Garden is a popular setting for family gatherings and picnics.

The centrepiece of the garden is a picturesque lake; one one side, discover Australian native plants such as banksias, grevilleas and hakeas, while on the other you will find flora from South Africa such as proteas and leucadendrons.

An extensive collection of plants from Kangaroo Island and the Fleurieu Peninsula are part of collection, and conservation projects are an important part of the garden’s work.

The Wittunga Naming Walk demonstrates how plants are named scientifically and the origins of their names – whether from a person or a characteristic of the plant. There are 24 interpretative signs installed throughout the garden, stationed alongside the relevant plant.

Join garden guides every Tuesday for free a guided walk.
