Set in a 100-acre estate in the Adelaide foothills, with spectacular views stretching to the ocean, Carrick Hill is Australia’s most intact historic house, lovingly preserved for all to enjoy.

Previously the private home of Sir Edward and Lady Ursula Hayward, Carrick Hill is a South Australian cultural icon renowned for its historical significance, diverse modern art collection and magnificent landscaped gardens and bushland open to all to explore and enjoy.

Located close to the Adelaide Hills wine regions, spectacular southern beaches and the Adelaide CBD, Carrick Hill is a special place to discover South Australia’s rich history, connect with art and nature, and enjoy a great day out with friends and family.

Visitors can explore the House Museum, join a tour of the House or Garden, discover the Storybook Trail, explore the Gardens, enjoy lunch or coffee at Rozelle’s and browse the Carrick Hill Shop.

Please note the House Museum is closed during July for annual care and conservation work. The grounds and Rozelle’s remain open Wednesday to Sunday, 10 am to 4:30 pm.
The House Museum will reopen Friday 1st August.

Services

Twice a day, Carrick Hill’s friendly and knowledgeable volunteer guides take visitors through the house, sharing the history of the Haywards and their home, as well as the artworks and furnishings.

On the tour, you’ll discover paintings from the collection by Dobell, Gaugin and Sickert. There are sculptures by Jacob Epstein of Albert Einstein, Bernard Shaw and Sir Winston Churchill.

You’ll explore the unique decor styled around English country living, including exquisite William Morris furnishings.

Public guided house tours are at 11.30am & 2.30pm daily.
