Hastwell & Lightfoot was started in 1988 by Mark & Wendy Hastwell and their mates Martin and Jill Lightfoot (retired). Together, these two families planted the first Hastwell & Lightfoot vineyards in the deep sandy slopes of Foggo Road.
Now under the leadership of the Hastwell family’s second generation, the family oversees forty acres of certified sustainable vineyard and four acres of olive trees.
Beyond crafting McLaren Vale icons like Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, they’ve been pioneers in producing wines from alternative grape varieties native to Spain and Italy for more than twenty years. The team is passionate about varieties that are well-suited to the growing conditions in McLaren vale (e.g., Fiano, Vermentino, Tempranillo, Barbera, and more) and therefore more sustainable overall.
Guided by a focus on precision, Winemaker James Hastwell strives to produce bright, fruit-forward wines with lively acidity, smooth tannins and judicious use of oak that showcase the premium McLaren Vale grapes grown on the sandy slopes of their vineyard. These attributes yield fresh and vibrant wines that pair exceptionally well with food.

Enjoy a beautiful picnic lunch accompanied by H&L wine on the lush green lawn space next to the vines at Hastwell & Lightfoot. This experience includes:
Boho picnic set-up includes low tables, crockery, cloth napkins, cushions, rugs, and a low back peacock chair. Additional items like couches can be added for an additional charge (coordinated directly through our decor supplier). Let us know your theme and we can customise the cushion colours to match!

Lawn games
We have a 10 person minimum for this experience; if you’d like to experience this picnic set-up for 4 people only, that’s certainly possible, however, the 8-person minimum pricing applies.
Disabled Access
This package is designed for large groups (more than 8 people) looking to enjoy H&L wine and lawn games at their cellar door. Great for large group wine tours, birthday parties, hen’s days, baby showers, and more!
This package includes assorted bottles of wine to enjoy outside (approximately 1/2 a bottle of wine per person), two hours of use of the lawn space, large format lawn games including giant jenga (or tumbling tower) and cornhole bean bag toss.
A generous platter lunch is available for $21 per person.
