Edithburgh Water Tower: A Coastal Masterpiece
Dominating the skyline at 25 meters tall, the Edithburgh Water Tower is impossible to miss—a bold landmark that transcends its practical purpose. Today, it stands as a vibrant canvas, celebrating the town’s coastal soul and extraordinary biodiversity.
Painted in just 15 days (March 2021) by acclaimed artist Mike Makatron—with Conrad Bizjak and Dylan Butler—the mural blends spray gun and hand-painting to reveal the mesmerizing underwater world of Edithburgh Jetty. Dive into a scene alive with the Striped Pyjama Squid, Cuttlefish, and the rare Leafy Sea Dragon, while above, a White-Bellied Sea Eagle soars and the Eastern Curlew strides. The Troubridge Lighthouse, a historic sentinel, anchors the composition, weaving together the region’s natural and cultural threads.
This project was brought to life through the AusTrade Bushfire Recovery Grant, with support from the Edithburgh Progress Association, Yorke Peninsula Council, Yorke Peninsula Tourism, and SA Water. A must-see fusion of art, nature, and community spirit!
