Minlacowie Water Tank Mural

Landmarks and Buildings

Completed in March 2023, the striking Minlacowie Water Tank Mural stands 5.8 metres high and stretches nearly 100 metres around. Created by renowned artist Mike Makatron, with assistance from Conrad Bizjak, Harley Hall, Dylan Butler, Jason Swales, and Sabine Meyer, this enormous artwork was shaped through extensive consultation with the local community and Narungga Elders.

Celebrating the heart of the Yorke Peninsula, the mural beautifully reflects the region’s Narungga culture, agricultural heritage, and natural coastal beauty. It features Narungga totem animals — the kangaroo, emu, shark, and eagle — along with traditional linework, the symbol for ‘community’, and depictions of local flora and seascapes.

The mural’s sheer scale and detail make it a must-see in person. Whether you visit as a standalone trip or as part of the Southern Yorke Peninsula Water Tower Mural Trail, this breathtaking piece is a celebration of culture, land, and creativity.
