Like so many Yorke Peninsula towns, Price has a character of its own. Located just seven kilometres south of Port Clinton, it’s a small settlement with substantial mangrove forest and birdlife.
There are two creek systems here, Shag Creek and Wills Creek – both of which are very important fish nursery areas. The mangroves and samphire tidal flats are crossed by a 1.5 kilometre causeway and the Price creek system, is popular with fishers. It’s the ideal sheltered location for small fishing boats.
If you love Blue Swimmer Crabs, Price is a crabber’s delight. January and February are peak times for ‘blueys’ but they can be caught in most warmer months.

Once a port, the town now exists for Cheetham Salt’s operation on its southern edge, where the salt pans dominate the landscape. On the other side, past the friendly Wheatsheaf Hotel, is a walking trail to Port Clinton.
