Hobart Zoo and Aquarium

Zoos, Sanctuaries, Aquariums and Wildlife Parks

Just 30 minutes from Hobart, nestled in the scenic Coal River Valley near historic Richmond, Hobart Zoo and Aquarium offers unforgettable opportunities to learn about, appreciate and interact with animals from Tasmania, Australia, and around the world.

Under new ownership and visionary leadership.

Since August 2024, Hobart Zoo and Aquarium has been under dynamic new ownership, bringing a bold and ambitious vision to life. With a focus on animal welfare, guest experience, sustainability and community inclusion, the zoo is evolving into a world-class destination like never before.

Guests can hand-feed kangaroos and wallabies, meet wombats, curious emus and barnyard favourites like miniature Highland Cows. Explore the walk-in aviary, with bird feeding at 10am and 1pm, and enjoy daily keeper talks and interactive animal experiences.

Backed by a passionate team led by Life Sciences Manager Mandy Prestage and bold future plans, Hobart Zoo and Aquarium is becoming much more than a zoo—it’s a place for connection, learning and fun for all ages.
