What does Palawa Kipli mean? Palawa means Tasmanian Aborigine and kipli means food in Palawa kani, the Tasmanian Aboriginal language.

Palawa kipli is first and foremost a native food business. They are operated by Aboriginal people, on Aboriginal land and are committed to the reconnection of our people to traditional food practices. They hope to contribute to cultural continuation and revival through community engagement with traditional food sources and cultural landscapes.

They offer state-wide catering, kipli takara / bush tucker tours, educational workshops, host cultural events and tv shows.

By supporting and buying products from Palawa kipli, you are helping to ensure the employment of Tasmanian Aboriginal people in our workplace, which enables them to continue their culturally centred food and land management practices.

They hope that by sharing their food with you, people are more aware of how sustainable the future can be. By learning about their history and culture, it will enable you to be a part of the movement to creating a better environment for the future and will continue to strengthen the existence of the Tasmanian Aboriginal community.

kipli takara (bush tucker) tour

From $95 to $3000

kipli takara piyura kitina-ta is a bush foods walk departing from Risdon Cove, where guests are invited to taste the timeless palate of the piyura kitina.

The experience lasts for approx 90 minutes which includes a walk across the culturally rich landscape with palawa (Tasmanian Aboriginal) guides, hearing about the past and current history of the land.

Guests will sample native bush tucker that is currently in season and glimpse first hand how palawa continue to enjoy the native foods.

The ‘kipli takara’ experience ends with a unique tasting of native food flavours and drinks, catered from palawa kipli (the Tasmanian Aboriginal owned and operated catering company).
Public tours include, access to piyura kitina, guided walk and native finger food and drinks.

You can also request a private cultural food package experience as a add-on to the kipli takara tour. This includes a sit down cultural dining experience.

We offer a set menu of 6 plates, for our high end cultural dining experiences for groups of 30 people.

These are primarily delivered at our facility at Piyura kitina/Risdon Cove, but we are also willing to collaborate with external partners to offer these events across the state.
