Windmill Point Tree Sculptures

Landmarks and Buildings

Tasmanian chain-saw artist Eddie Freeman has released these historical figures from their imprisonment in the Windmill Point macrocarpa trees.

The sculptures depict workmen hauling ashore the telegraph cable that linked Tasmania to the North Island, the cable station was the messaging hub of the state until 1909. Matthew Flinders with his cat Trim, George Bass, and Colonel William Paterson are also represented.

The site also has a BBQ and a playground featuring a wooden boat named after the HMS Buffalo – the ship that Paterson landed in 1804.
