Pooley Wines

Wineries

Pooley Wines was established in 1985 when the late Jack ‘Denis’ and Margaret Pooley planted vines on the banks of the Coal River in southern Tasmania. Now, in the hands of their third generation, Pooley Wines seek to share exceptional, nurtured wines that express their uniqueness, ambassadorship, and dedication to renewing their environment for generations to come.

The expression of a sense of place is at the core of their philosophy. Their wines are enhanced primarily by their unique terroir, their commitment to sustainable viticulture, with minimal intervention winemaking. Their wines seek to personify the distinction between their two vineyards located in the Coal River Valley, Butcher’s Hill and Cooinda Vale.

Their cellar door is located on the outskirts of the historic Richmond township in the heart of the Coal River Valley. Nestled between Belmont, the Georgian, convict-built, heritage-listed home, and the vines you will find our tasting room, The Coach House.
Join them for in-depth structured tastings, local cheese and charcuterie boards daily, as well as artisan wood-fired pizzas on weekends.

Pooley Wines also offers luxury accommodation and fine dining across the road at the lovingly restored Prospect Country House and Buscombe’s Restaurant. With just 11 luxuriously appointed rooms, the hotel and restaurant provide an intimate escape perfect for marking a special occasion or weekend getaway with friends and loved ones.
