Melbourne Holocaust Museum
Things To Do Elsternwick, Glen Eira, Victoria
The Melbourne Holocaust Museum was founded by a group of survivors in 1984 to honour Holocaust victims and support survivors and their descendants. Since then, they’ve collected more than 14,000 survivor testimonies and 12,000 historical artefacts. Every year, thousands of people visit to learn from the past. By amplifying the voice of Holocaust survivors, the museum serves to remember the six million Jewish people who died in the Holocaust. Through education, the Melbourne Holocaust Museum aims to combat darkness and prejudice, celebrate human resilience, and build a better future.
The museum’s main exhibition is Everybody Had a Name, which tracks life before the Holocaust to the rise of Nazism and the outbreak of World War Two. Throughout the exhibition, visitors encounter remarkable personal stories from those who survived and migrated to Melbourne. Follow in the footsteps of a survivor via a multimedia experience that offers a first-hand account of what it was like during the time and after.
Built by a community of survivors, the Melbourne Holocaust Museum preserves experiences and legacies trough exhibition and art.
