National Crime & Justice Museum – Geelong Gaol

Galleries, Museums and Collections

The National Crime & Justice Museum at the Geelong Gaol (also known as the Geelong Gaol Museum) is housed in the most intact 19th-century colonial prison in Victoria. It opened in 1853 and closed in 1991 in the same conditions that you see today.

Visitors can experience the brutal conditions prisoners endured over its 138-year history along with displays telling the history of this three-story bluestone behemoth. Visitors can also see artefacts from all over Australia that illustrate its criminal history.

Step back in history and view the exhibitions of Colonial Prisons, the Hulks, Stitched Up and Saga Behind the Armour, Eureka Stockade to name a few.
