Old Beechworth Gaol

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

Step inside one of Australia’s most historic landmarks. The Old Beechworth Gaol played a major role in the story of Ned Kelly, housing Ned, his mother Ellen, his brother Dan, and many of their supporters.

Built in the 1860s from granite quarried on site, the gaol is a stunning example of gold rush architecture that still stands strong today.

Join a guided tour any day of the week, running for 60 minutes, with extra times added during holiday periods. Book online or grab your tickets at the on-site cafe. Please check the website for specific times. The cafe serves locally roasted coffee, handmade sausage rolls, toasties and delicious cookies and snacks.
