Rutherglen Gold Battery Walk

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

The Rutherglen Gold Battery walk will take you through sites around the area such as Silo Art, the iconic Wine Bottle, the Rutherglen Gold Battery, and the Rutherglen Convent and Brewery. This walk is approximately four kilometres and will take about an hour to complete.

The walk begins at Rutherglen Wine Experience and Visitor Information Centre.

Cross the Murray Valley Highway and walk along the rail trail, admire the Silo Art. Just past the silo is a path which leads you to Lord Street. Walk along Lord Street until you reach Hopetoun Road.

Walk up Hopetoun Road until you reach the Wine bottle, make sure you turn around and enjoy the view of the mountains and vineyards.

Take the third exit on the roundabout to Carlyle Road, walk about one kilometre to Battery Road and then take a short walk to the Rutherglen Gold Battery. Make sure you get the door code from the friendly staff at the Rutherglen Visitor Information Centre so you can access the audio-visual experience at the Gold Battery.

Head back to High Street at the roundabout and the next stop will be on your left-hand side, Rutherglen Convent and Brewery.

Walk past St Mary’s Primary School, Ready Water Fountain and turn left onto Douglas Street, past The Wallace Cairn and back to the Rutherglen Wine Experience.
