Nestled within this breathtaking landscape lies the Mindful Tunnel, a transformative mural installation by acclaimed Melbourne-based artist Drez. Known for his ability to transform architectural space through the lens of urban abstraction, Drez uses colour and geometric gradients to manipulate how people perceive their surroundings. This vibrant underpass installation turns a functional transit point into an immersive art experience. Adjacent to the tunnel are more creative installations. Take a seat at The Pavillion, a striking architectural shelter by Yackandandah-based Agency of Sculpture, and marvel at a towering, iridescent native flower sculpture by Melbourne’s Skunk Control.

Drawing on his background in graffiti and fine art, Drez has applied a calculated chromatic oscillation to the tunnel walls, creating a rhythmic pulse of colour that evolves with your movement. It is a moment of pure mindfulness, designed to pull you into the present through the power of light and shifting perspective.

Mindful Tunnel is a part of the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail Enhancements Project, a project introducing a series of must-see moments designed to make the trail more engaging, accessible and shareable than ever before. The public art installations are part of a curated journey featuring world-class installations that celebrate local stories interpreted by Victorian artists.
