Banksia Park

National Parks and Reserves

The open space, playgrounds and picnic areas of Banksia Park, within the Yarra Valley Parklands make it a popular location for visitors. The park can be accessed from Templestowe Road, Bulleen and is the perfect place for cyclists, joggers, walkers and for a breath of fresh air.

The area has a picnic shelter and tables, playground, accessible toilets and drinking water. There are no litter bins on site, however coal bins are available for the disposal of cold coals only. Please take all other rubbish away for recycling or disposal. Follow the Heritage Trail and learn about our history and special significance of the Aboriginal sites, view the plentiful water fowl in the wetlands, or walk the Heidelberg Artists Trail.

Organised groups of more than 50 people require a permit from Parks Victoria.

In 1841, a punt was installed on the Yarra River at the site of the bridge at Banksia Park. It opened the best route between Melbourne and the Bulleen-Templestowe area enabling the earliest Europeans to settle along the rich river flats. Banksia Park was the first part of the Yarra Valley Parklands to be opened to the public in 1978.

Before traveling, visit Parks Victoria’s website to check for changes in park conditions which may impact your visit. Remember to stay bushfire ready using Emergency Victoria’s website while in nature.
