Mooroop Yarkeen

Landmarks and Buildings

Look up.

There in the sky, you’ll see Bunjil the creator, the Wedge-tailed Eagle soaring above Werribee’s skyline as part of the huge, 41-metre-tall mural, Mooroop Yarkeen (Spirit Dreaming) by Indigenous artist Tommy Day / Jirri Jirri.

Commissioned by Wyndham City, this First Nations mural is one of the largest in Australia.

Stretching across the façade of Holiday Inn Werribee, the design incorporates the Wirribi Yaluk (Werribee River), sandhills and Basalt plains, welcoming gum leaves, community coming together in unity, dreaming, and Bunjil’s flight.

Artist Tommy Day / Jirri Jirri represented by MAMAM, is a Gunditjmara, Yorta, Yorta and Wemba Wemba man and multi-disciplined artist based in Shepparton, Victoria.

The mural was commissioned and designed in consultation with Bunurong Traditional Owners.

Mooroop Yarkeen is even more spectacular in the late afternoon, as the sun dips lower in the west and casts it in a warm glow.

Take in Mooroop Yarkeen on the free, self-guided Werribee Public Art Walking Tour.
