Greyhound Speed Dating at Abbotsford Convent

Melbourne greyhound rescue group Gumtree Greys is hosting a Speed Dating event, inviting dog lovers to meet their potential forever match, snout to snout.

Gumtree Greys is a Melbourne-based volunteer group dedicated to finding loving homes for retired greyhounds. They are inviting Melburnians to join them for a speed-dating style meet-and-greet with greyhounds currently up for adoption. It’s a chance to get to know these gentle, goofy characters in person, learn about life with a retired racer, and maybe even meet the one.

There will be prizes, treats, and plenty of opportunities for cuddles and conversation.

Each year in Australia, approximately 4,000 greyhounds are bred for racing, but more than half will either be deemed unsuitable for racing or will retire due to injury or age. Since Greyhound Racing Victoria rehomes only a small percentage of these dogs, organisations like Gumtree Greys serve as a vital lifeline.
