Nestled between the Strathbogie and Alpine Ranges, Kooyonga Creek Wines is a family-owned boutique winery near Mount Samaria National Park. It is a short drive from Swanpool, Benalla and Mansfield.
Here in the foothills of the Alpine Ranges, the weather is perfect for cool-climate winemaking. The long and even ripening season allows the fruit to develop complex flavours. The rich soil gives their wines a sense of place you can smell and taste in every sip.
Born in a vineyard and named after the jasper gemstone discovered on the edges and gullies of the Kooyonga Creek in the gold rush days. The grape-based Crystal Gin is created from spirit distilled from the vineyard’s own wine. Capturing the essence of the terroir, Crystal Gin bears the quintessential flavours of its surroundings with 14 botanicals including traditional juniper and Australian liquorice root, star anise and lemon myrtle. Choose from Original or One Week Infused Crystal Gin for an added depth of flavour.
Pam and Barry Saunders first planted vines here in 2000 and focused on the varietals for which the nearby Strathbogie Wine Region is renowned: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz. In 2016, winemaker Luis Simian joined the family at Kooyonga Creek Wines, bringing in grapes from a local vineyard to make the Castle Hill Road Chardonnay, introducing Rosé and replacing Merlot with Tempranillo.
