‘Koomal’ is the traditional Aboriginal name of Wadandi man Josh Whiteland. Passionate, learned and spiritually aware, Josh has a personal commitment to sharing his deep knowledge of his culture and lore with visitors. He created Koomal Dreaming so he could communicate at least part of his profound connection with his land and his people with guests from around Australia and the world.

Journey through ancient landscapes and discover the world’s oldest living culture. Walk beside Wadandi custodian Josh ‘Koomal’ Whiteland through Wadandi and Bibbulmun Country and connect with history like never before.

Taste the native foods that have sustained generations, learn about native flora and fauna, be moved by the melody of Josh’s didgeridoo music deep within the cave, and connect with the Dreaming spirits that have enriched the lives of the Wadandi and Bibbulmun people since time began.

Koomal Dreaming has two Meeting places within the Margaret River Region, located in Yallingup at Ngilgi Cave and at Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse precinct.

Koomal Dreaming is part of the Margaret River Region and Australia’s South West. In 2024, Josh was the recipient of the Tourism Western Australia Gold Award for Individual Excellence in Aboriginal Tourism.

As the Western Australian sun sets, you’re invited to a unique experience in the depths of Ngilgi Cave.

This tour is a focused, heart-opening 90-minute cultural tour with powerful Aboriginal learnings commencing with a short guided walk identifying traditional indigenous food, medicinal plants and knowledge about the region. Learn about the Six Seasons the Wadandi people live by.

This Aboriginal food tour engages all five of your senses and delivers an immersive experience like no other, a sensory-rich three-hour native food tour that connects you deeply with the land and its ancient culture.

Take a guided walk with Josh to forage for Indigenous native bush foods, plants and medicines whilst hearing about their traditional uses.

Learn about the six Noongar seasons and how this influences what is hunted and gathered.

Learn about the deep connection the Wadandi people have to the Cape to Cape region.

The Kaya Cape tour is wheelchair accessible and begins with an Aboriginal ‘Welcome to Country’. Your guide, Josh “Koomal” Whiteland will escort you on a short (200-metre round trip) walk around Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, where you are surrounded on three sides by oceans, interpreting the landscape to you through the eyes of an indigenous custodian.

After your walk, convene at a secluded Kaya Meeting Place and gain a deeper understanding of the tools and items integral to the Wadandi culture. You’ll also get the chance to enjoy a captivating didgeridoo music session against the backdrop of Australian nature.
