Southern Sea Ventures was established in 1988 and has grown from running a single tour on Hinchinbrook Island to offering a current total of 25 different trips around the world. Born of the spirit of adventure and exploration, they are constantly seeking new trips and destinations while continuing to consolidate their experience with particular destinations.

Embark on a seven-day sea kayaking expedition in Western Australia, diving into the abundant marine life and captivating history of the Houtman Abrolhos Islands. Set sail on the Silverado, the premier live-aboard vessel, ready to uncover the secrets of these 122 islands, often hailed as the ‘Galapagos of the Indian Ocean’.

Each day presents a fresh adventure: paddling through lively coral reefs, teeming with a variety of fish, playful dolphins and gliding rays. On land, experience the spectacle of over two million seabirds and the rare opportunity to observe the endangered Australian sea lion in its natural habitat.

Travel back in time as you traverse more than 60 historic shipwrecks, including the infamous Batavia, unveiling a fascinating aspect of Australia’s maritime heritage. Plunge into crystal-clear waters for an unforgettable snorkelling experience with seals, surrounded by the underwater kaleidoscope of coral gardens, vibrant fish, anemones and seagrass meadows. You can even try your hand at catching your dinner from handpicked fishing spots.

Ningaloo is the southern hemisphere’s largest fringing reef and the close proximity to the shoreline means it is easily accessible; a sea kayaker’s and snorkeller’s paradise!

On the Explorer itinerary, spend as much time in the water as on it with the reward of viewing hundreds of colourful fish, turtles and incredible coral. On land, keep an eye out for iconic Australian wildlife such as emus, kangaroos, echidnas and wallabies.

Days are spent paddling from one beautiful beachfront location to the next, snorkelling amazing coral reefs and setting up camp for the night before relaxing over a hearty and delicious dinner under a blanket of stars.

The Explorer itinerary is suitable for beginner to experienced paddlers keen for a relaxed-paced trip with plenty of shore-based snorkelling opportunities.

Join a Western Australian sea kayak expedition along the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef. Spend five days kayaking from one remote beach to the next, snorkelling on the fringing reef (the world’s largest) and camping under a trillion stars.

Each day is an adventure, with a chance to snorkel the coral gardens around a fallen lighthouse and shipwreck of a Norwegian whaler to the sight of turtles zipping under our kayaks or popping up for a breath of air.

Morning tea and lunch spots are enjoyed on un-named beaches and each evening is celebrated with an amazing sunset.

This trip is suitable for intermediate to experienced paddlers keen for a remote trip with more paddling and kayak-based snorkel opportunities compared to the Explorer and Base Camp itineraries.

One of the highlights of the Shark Bay area is Dirk Hartog Island, the largest island in Western Australia, known for its historical significance and diverse ecosystems. For those seeking adventure, the island offers excellent opportunities for exploring rugged landscapes and wild beaches. The island’s diverse habitats, from sandy shores to limestone cliffs, provide a spectacular backdrop for our activities.

Shark Bay and Dirk Hartog Island provide sanctuary for a variety of wildlife, including numerous seabirds, marine turtles, dugongs, dolphins, rays and an incredible array of fish species.
