Mettams Pool

National Parks and Reserves

Mettams Pool is a well-loved coastal spot located along Perth’s northern beaches, just north of the popular surf spot Trigg Beach. This sheltered lagoon is a favourite among locals and visitors alike, offering calm, shallow waters perfect for swimming, snorkelling, and relaxing by the ocean.

Renowned as one of Perth’s top snorkelling destinations, Mettams Pool is home to a vibrant array of marine life, easily visible just metres from the shore. The beach stretches between Lynn Street and Saunders Street, with convenient access via stairs and a ramp from the nearby carpark.

Ideal for families and anyone seeking a peaceful coastal experience, Mettams Pool provides natural protection from the wind, making it a reliable spot even when the seabreeze picks up. It’s also a highlight along the scenic West Coast Drive, a popular route for beach-hopping and coastal walks.

Adding to its charm is the site’s unique history. In the 1930s, World War I veteran Frank Mettam began shaping the lagoon by manually chipping away at the limestone reef using explosives and a crowbar – a labour of love that continued into the 1960s.

Whether you’re exploring the marine life, enjoying a gentle swim, or soaking up the sun, Mettams Pool offers a memorable and relaxing experience on Perth’s beautiful coastline.
