Garrick Theatre
Things To Do Guildford, Swan, Western Australia
Located in the heart of heritage-listed Guildford, the Garrick Theatre Club is Western Australia’s longest continually running amateur theatre group, proudly entertaining audiences since 1932.
Named after 18th century legendary English actor and theatre reformer, David Garrick, the club continues his legacy with award-winning performances and a strong community spirit.
The theatre is housed in one of Guildford’s most historically significant buildings. Constructed in the early 1850s by convict labour, it originally served as a Commissariat Store and living quarters. Designed by Lieutenant Edmund Du Cane, the building was part of a larger effort to revive the Swan River Colony’s economy through vital public infrastructure.
Built in the Colonial Georgian style, the single-storey brick structure has served many roles over the decades – from a drill hall for Enrolled Pensioner Guards to a fire station – before becoming the permanent home of the Garrick Theatre Club in 1934.
Today, visitors can admire its striking façade or, better yet, step inside and enjoy one of the many high-quality productions staged throughout the year.
Whether you’re a history buff or a theatre lover, Garrick Theatre offers a unique cultural experience where the past and the performing arts come together in perfect harmony.
