The Captain Stirling Walk – Guildford Heritage Walk Trail
Things To Do Guildford, Swan, Western Australia
Guildford is one of Western Australia’s most historic towns and is proudly listed on the State Register of Heritage Places. With its village charm, colonial architecture, and vibrant mix of antique stores, homewares boutiques, and cafés, Guildford is the perfect place to explore on foot.
Discover the stories behind this heritage-rich town via four self-guided heritage walk trails, each beginning and ending at the Old Guildford Courthouse—home to the Swan Valley Visitor Centre. Pick up a colour-coded map or download the Glorious Guildford brochure to start your journey.
The Captain Stirling Walk is one of the longer routes (2.25 km, 60–75 minutes), marked with gold arrows to guide your way.
This scenic trail winds past the beautifully restored Rose and Crown Hotel—WA’s oldest continually operating pub—and the historic Padbury’s Store.
Along the way, you’ll pass charming cottages, heritage streetscapes, and enjoy views across what was once Captain James Stirling’s Woodbridge Estate on the Swan River floodplain.
As you stroll past pretty cottage gardens and along the London Plane tree-lined avenue, another highlight is the magnificent Chapel of St Mary and St George, located within Guildford Grammar School.* This iconic Gothic-style chapel is considered one of Australia’s finest.
*Note: The chapel is not open to the public. Exterior photography must not include students.
